Off Track

I am just one of the Master’s sheep

Once I awoke not feeling right

Aches and pains were everywhere

The shepherd was not in sight

I sensed the flock was on the move

I couldn’t find my glasses

Everything was kind of blurry

As I stumbled through tall grasses

So I began to follow

Glad the way became more wide

I had a lot of company

And my heart swelled up with pride

I couldn’t hear the Master’s voice

I think my hearing aid fell out

But I figured if He needed me

He knew how to shout

I followed on for many days

Until I grew so tired

I began to push right through the flock

To reach my Master’s side

I thought He had promised rest to me

And still waters pure and sweet

As I pushed through I realized

Those were not my Master’s feet!

It was some guy in expensive shoes

Wearing a suit and tie

My Shepherd just wears sandals

I’d been following a lie!

By then I was so far away

I thought all hope was lost

When I remembered His great love

And the promise in the cross

Just then two hands reached down to me

I was carried in His arms

I could hear the beating of His heart

And knew I was safe from harm

When we returned to the right path

He gently set me on my feet

He spoke no words of condemnation

He said “Now come, and follow Me”
