The Visit

I called you last September

and I told you that I missed ya

Then you came down to visit me

because you are my sistah

There were a lot of sights along the drive

but you didn’t look

Your husband drove ten hours plus

while you read a book

We had our morning coffee

and put on our walking shoes

Then I took you to the places where

I walk away the blues

We laughed and talked along the way

as sisters often do

We didn’t focus on our pace

just burned a calorie or two

Now often when I walk this path

I would swear you’re here with me

I hear your laughter through the trees

And echoes of our dreams

The sunlight dances ‘cross the path

As shadows play their games

And little birds sing merrily

the music of your name
